Recruitment – The Gold Level Standard

8 August 2024 | Blog

In case you missed it – Novak Djokovic finally won gold at The Olympics. First things first, well done Novak! (Although Andy Murray is by far the better player!). Here’s how we can help you achieve the gold standard, through recruitment.

An essential part of human resources is recruitment, and it is also an important part of the service that we offer to our clients.

You can check out our full range of recruitment services here.

The Golden Question is – what is a recruitment strategy and why do you need one? (including a shout out for our friends over at Hireful!)

What is a Recruitment Strategy?

This is an action plan that aims to attract, hire and then retain the highest standard of employees. Your business should explore the most efficient and effective strategies to identify who the best candidates for a particular job vacancy are & how best to attract this level of talent. These employees will need to demonstrate a commitment to ensuring the best for your organisation. Once these employees are in your business, the aim for you is to keep them happy & satisfied, ensure they are heavily involved in driving your business forward. By installing a clearly defined recruitment plan, you are working towards a loyal, talented and robust workforce that will surpass all business targets – you’ve got to aim high!

We’ll keep this short and simple, here’s five ways you can implement a solid recruitment strategy.

Develop a Strong Brand

Brand reputation is everything in the current environment. The general opinion of your company can go a long way to ensuring business success. This also translates through to recruitment. If your business is well-known and shines in a positive light, candidates will be more inclined to apply for a job vacancy with you. A successful brand is one that is correlated with the culture, values and mission of the business. Let’s have a look a company culture.

Company Culture

Social media is a great way to show off your positive company culture to people outside your business. This is something that we, at The HR Booth, try to do with our social media posts. You will notice that a lot of our social media posts are celebrating team member(s) in one way or another. We want to show you how positive a culture we have at The HR Booth. Well, who better to tell you about this than our CEO & Founder, Alistair, who spoke about how he helped shape the current business culture in a recent Ask The Expert session, which you can read here.

Company Values

Make sure that, throughout your workforce, everyone is aligned with the company values and knows what is expected of them, especially when representing the company at events. The most efficient way to demonstrate this is through leadership.

Employee Stories

Your employees should be at the heart and at the epicentre of all that you do. This extends to social media, where you can share any positive and heartwarming stories from your colleagues. Often, we will post stories from our own employees, which our audience enjoy and gives our audience the perfect opportunity to get to know our team more in – depth. Looking at this from a recruitment point of view, potential job candidates will already ‘know’ some of the employees through the social media activity. This can make the transition from a new start to an established employee a little bit easier and more comfortable for them.

Optimise Job Listings

Before, you might have considered a job advert simply as a list of duties an employee must carry out, focusing solely on what was expected of potential candidates.

Nowadays, there has been an active mind shift towards a more modern – day job advert, highlighting more about the organisation, the organisational culture and the benefits associated with that job. Job adverts are a way to sell your company, showcase your brand and attract top talent, but also the right person. If you want to attract an extrovert to your business, you can word the job advert to suit and attract an extrovert.

In today’s recruitment landscape, it’s seen as a prime opportunity to showcase your business and attract top talent. While a job description should be readily available upon request, the advert itself serves as the enticing introduction. The job description should make you stand out from the rest of the crowd, and market yourself as a more attractive company than your competitors. It will act as the initial point of contact for potential candidates, offering a small look into your own values, culture and working environment.

Calum put together an Ask The Expert article on this – which you can view here.

The Role of Social Media

Having an active social media in the present day is a must for business growth. It is a quick, easy and cost – effective way to grow and expand your business. The same can be said for recruitment. Every job vacancy that you come across will, at some point, have been advertised on social media. As we previously touched on, recruitment is an essential part of our service to our clients. We have a live job vacancy portal that anyone can access – yes, including you, click here to access.

However, we will also post job vacancies on our social media channel regularly as well. This enables us to reach a larger and perhaps more relevant audience, therefore ensuring we provide the best service for our clients. If you are not utilising social media for recruitment then we recommend that this is something that you explore. If you would like any assistance of how to do this, then please contact us via the contact form at the bottom of this page.

Comprehensive Candidate Assessments

In the current market, a lot of businesses will often use applicant testing systems to narrow down the large number of applicants. This is not something we, at The HR Booth, use, however. We believe that in hiring people with the right attitude, we can train them up.

There are some relevant assessment techniques you can and should implement, however. Firstly, the traditional interview process. This is interview either through video call or in – person, in which the hirer will ask the candidate various questions on their personality, previous experience and current ability. This is a great way to get an impression on potential job candidates. We recommend holding multiple rounds of interviews, with the process becoming more in – depth, the further through the rounds you get. This is a sure – fire way to hire, who you believe, to be the best candidate for the job.

Focus on Retention

Employee retention is essential for business success. New starts will need to feel welcome, comfortable and supported throughout your onboarding process. We recommend coming up with an induction plan for any new – starts. At The HR Booth, a typical induction plan will involve meeting everyone, having an onboarding meeting with their line manager, meeting with individuals in different departments – this includes Human Resource, Marketing and Recruitment – ensuring you provide a deeper understanding of the business for the new employee. We will also look to have a team lunch in the office with them as well, aiming to make them feel as comfortable as possible.

We have linked in a podcast episode below, in which Alistair discusses the importance of a positive onboarding process and the long – lasting positive impact this can have on the organisation, such as increased employee retention.

Career Development Opportunities

All of your employees should be aiming to progress in their career. If they want to progress their career with you as their employer, then that is the perfect situation for you. Your responsibility here is to offer them that opportunity at the right time. When a vacancy comes up within your own organisation, why not have a look at your current workforce and decide whether there are any potential candidates that would be suitable for the job role. You are saving time & money here, whilst also boosting employee satisfaction – we all like to see our colleagues doing well! In addition, you are demonstrating a commitment to furthering and developing the career of your own employees, which will boost motivation for your current employees and provides you with a unique selling point for any future job candidates. We encourage you to look within first before looking externally, when it comes to recruitment.

Recruitment is an essential function of any business, and one that requires a modern – day strategy. This is an aspect we help a lot of clients with, we have our own job boards, as well as offering specific recruitment packages – bronze, silver, gold & platinum ( very topical with The Olympics on currently! ) – that can be specified to suit your own business and recruitment needs. Social media can play a huge part in implementing an effective recruitment process. If you need assistance with any aspect of recruitment, then we are always happy to chat this through with you. You can get in touch with us via the contact us form at the bottom of the page.
